Round 14 - Match Report
9 Gold V Glenhaven Red
"If you take care of the little things; the big things take care of themselves".
This was certainly the case for 9 Gold's final game of the 2015 season versing Glenhaven. Our opponents were a tightly drilled team who knew their positions and how to read our play. In our final game we fumbled the ball too many times, threw pretty average passes and gave Glenhaven an easy start to the game. This game certainly didn't reflect the amazing season our girls have had under the guidance of Coach Lena.
In terms of the quote: "If you take care of the little things; the big things take care of themselves". Girls in 2016, if you want to be competitive you have some essentials that are the key to your success:
* throw decent, consistent passes
* don't wait for the ball to come to you - drive forward and pursue those balls that roll on the ground
* stick with your player and never chase the ball
* distance first, then put up your defensive arms
* shooters, be accurate and if you miss, jump for the rebounds
* defence players, don't give the GS & GA time to move around the goal third - and keep your eye on that base line
Whilst the final result was a soccer score (we were defeated by just two goals), this was far from our best performance. On a normal day 9 Gold would have had a decisive victory - perhaps the girls were "saving themselves" for the Gala Day on Sunday? Only four losses all season girls and three of these were quite close. In total our goal ratio was about 7 goals to every 2 scored by our opponents. A great team effort as in netball it is just as important to stop those goals as it is to score them!
Allison, Angelina, Georgia, Melissa, Mia, Portia, Olivia, Tiara and Zoe - thanks for all the enthusiasm this season girls; perhaps some Fridays there was a tiny bit too much?!
Wishing you all the best for your netball future!
