Round 11 - Match Report

8 Navy V Glenhaven Gold

8 Green V Glenhaven White

Our 8 Green girls never disappoint. Each week the girls arrive at 7.30am while the sun is still rising, ready to play with big smiles and excited attitudes. This week was no different! The girls passed the ball up and down the court with precision in the freezing temperature. They really take what they learn at training and bring it to the game. A special mention to Abbie Pickard, who really found space and gave an option for passing so well this week, which is why she was awarded player of the Day! Well done to all the girls… great team spirit, great team work! Well done.

9 Gold V Impalas

It was absolutely freezing on Saturday morning which made it even more difficult to get out of bed on the last weekend of the school holidays. Our OLOL team played a highly in-form IMPALAS team and sadly, our girls had a lesson in how to play netball!

Our team Captain Zoe did win the toss and elected first centre. It is safe to say a few weeks away from both training and match practice allowed IMPALAS an early lead (eight goals by the end of the first quarter). IMPALA’s ability to move the ball quickly around the court and transition down to their goal circle was impressive. Our team had to work incredibly hard at staying with our players and keeping IMPALAS shooters off their base line. By the end of the second quarter we were down thirteen nil and had only had a few attempts at goal ourselves.

Mia, Allison, Portia and Georgia had the challenging role of trying to open up play through the centre third. IMPALAS were very skilled in reading our play and made every attempt to intercept our passes.

Some positional changes for the start of the third quarter saw our girls take charge. In this quarter IMPALAS scored just one goal and we were finally on the scoreboard!

Congratulations to our Player of the Week Tiara, who had to mark a gifted GA for most of the game.

Tiara managed to keep her four feet and didn’t give up! Her strong defensive tactics featured for most of the game no matter how far IMPALAS were in front of us on the scoreboard. Olivia was unbelievably busy teaming up with Tiara trying to contain the strongest attacking team we have played all season!

Congratulations also to Allison, who in the final quarter played GK and displayed some amazing defensive skills and fabulous determination!

A huge shout out to Melissa, who despite her injury, took the court and tried her best playing GS.

Melissa worked hard with Zoe to try and create opportunities to get our scorecard moving. We managed 4 goals with an additional 5 attempts that just didn’t make it in.

Girls, it is important we learn from this game and move forward. More importantly, we need to train like we want to play. Similarly, during our morning warm up session before our game we need to be focussed and put our “game brains” into action. Let’s leave the “games” for recess and lunch at school.

Our sports inspiration for the week:

10B1 V St Bernadettes

Our 10’s really push themselves each week. Although they didn’t manage a win this week, they held their spirit and pushed their ability right through to the end of the final quarter. We witnessed some great intercepts mid-court and skilful circle work. We love watching their love of netball and their teamwork. Well done girls!
