Round 8 - Match Report

8 Navy - Round 8.jpg

8 Navy V Baulkham Hills Sports

As our U8 Navy team walked down onto the court to start their warm up there was excitement and joy as they realised they knew a couple of players from the other team. After saying hello they quickly got down to business warming up and got ready for the game.

The girls had to work hard defending the other team who were quick to move the ball down the court. Our girls demonstrated some great intercepts and fantastic passes. Each week they are working better as a team and are improving on their spacing.

Emilie and Georgia in the first two quarters and then Emma and Elise in the last two quarters, were kept on their toes playing in the positions of goal defence and goal keeper. The girls played well and whilst they didn’t win this game they won our hearts with their enthusiasm and great team spirit all whilst having a big smile on their face and having fun.

Congratulations to Milana our player of the week!

8 Green V Glenwood

Even though the season was still Autumn, it felt like the middle of Winter as our girls took the court on the last Saturday in May.

It was a tough battle from the first whistle as Glenwood's defence was strong, but these girls were up for the challenge!

They all played an outstanding game and came out with another great win.

Cassie ran up and down the wings tirelessly and made a huge impact during the game.

The interlock play between Sophie and Sarah was simply outstanding.

Mia continued throughout to perform many "cut out" movements which helped the team secure the ball.

Antonia, Alexa, Abigail and Abbie played a very strong defensive game and prevented the opposition scoring many times.

Alexa, Georgia and Mia all worked hard to score some great goals earlier in the game and then a late frenzy of activity in the 4th quarter seen all the girls contribute to score a remarkable 4 goals!

All in all a very fine effort from our girls, everyone in the team played exceptionally well and are a pleasure to watch.

Congratulations!

9 Gold V Gazelles

Our team was ready for a challenge this week when we met The Gazelles. Our team Captain was Olivia and she won the toss allowing us first centre and a chance to set the tone for the game. 9 Gold certainly did this!

There was impressive movement of the ball around the court; utilising space and driving the ball into our goal circle which created plenty of opportunities for our shooters.

We are so fortunate to have quite an army of players comfortable wearing the GS or GA patch and delivering under pressure. Congratulations to Zoe for scoring four beautiful goals, Portia for her three goals (and shuffling like a champion) and to Melissa for her six official goals (a shame the seventh was just after the buzzer!) Our shooting accuracy this week was 68% (and could have been a bit higher as the last quarter had some great shots that unbelievably just did not make it through the goal ring!)

Our player of the Match this week was Georgia who has been consistently trying her best over recent weeks to create space and movement on the wings and drive the ball down the court where we need it most. This week Allison showed her versatility in playing WD, C and GK. Mia did an excellent job shadowing her player around the court - and her player could move fast! Olivia worked tirelessly as C for most of the game as she worked her way round the court creating vital movement through the centre third.

Tiara and Angelina own the title of "Dream Team" of defence. They rule the goal circle and ensure the GS and GA from our opposition have to work incredibly hard to make it close to the ring. The Gazelles had capable shooters but our "Dream Team" only allowed them three shots at goal for the entire game! They successfully scored only one goal.

Overall our team is truly developing a "netball brain". The girls learning to read the pace of the game and recognise where the ball needs to go next. Well done team; you are nine of the loveliest girls who make the opposition feel so welcome on the court. You play a great game of fair and quality netball that says a lot about our club and our fabulous school - OLOL. Keep up the hard work!

Our inspirational quote for the week: A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work".

10B1 V Glenhaven – Loss 4-17

U10 Round 8.jpg

Girls all played well on Saturday, against a tough Glenhaven team.

Great defence playing from Emily S, Alex and Ella with some great intercepts while Jess and Cailtlyn worked well together in the circle each scoring impressive goals.

Mid court players Emily T and Marianna always working hard to keep the ball down our end.

Great team work and good to see nobody gave up !!

Player of the game was Alexandra.

U11 - Round 8.jpg

11D1 V Oakhill Drive – Win 19-16

Another great game – the girls did a fantastic job keeping the opposition at bay!

Alana didn’t stop – she ran and ran the whole game.

Erin had a sore wrist but was a trooper – caught the ball with ease.

Nicole positioned herself really well in the circle to get the goals in.

Naomi, Bella and Marisa all did an awesome job in defence popping up all over the court to get the ball back.

Faith and Olivia were super dooper in the centre court always on the go getting the ball down the court.

Sadly Lorraine and Emma were sick. Hope you’re both feeling better!

Vesna was her usual self – very focused and strategic!

Nicole was this week’s player of the match.

U 14 Round 8.jpg

14D3 V Glenwood – Win 23-14

Outstanding defeat today by our young ladies.

They faced very tough opponents from the start.

They held their ground and fought hard the whole game.

We would especially like to mention that this group of girls have the softest , loving souls and its shining through on the court .

Today's player award goes to the "TEAM" Stand tall girls and be very proud.
