Round 7 - Match Report
Under 8 Navy V Glenwood
It was a cold start to the day and as the girls warmed up on court 29, there seemed to be a competition within our own team of who had the worst cough! This week we welcomed back Lauren and Matilda, who have had two weeks off due to illness. We rocked some crazy socks and hairstyles and donated our gold coins to The Kids Cancer Project.
Our poor coaches had to find the least sick of the team to start in centre position and Milana proved to be up for the challenge. Our other mid court players were Bella in WA and Matilda in WD. They both were good at reading the game and anticipating where the ball was going and also managed to make some exciting intercepts. Sadly Matilda had a fall and the cold weather made it sting that little bit more. Glenwood won the centre pass and when that first whistle blew, our girls were all over the centre third doing their best to snatch the ball away from the opposition. As the game continued, Georgia in GA, zipped around her player and looked for space to move the ball into our goal third. Elise in GS was very quick to get into position under the ring. Down the other end of the court, Emma in GD and Lauren in GK did their best to stick to their players. They were able to stop a few balls from making it into their opponent’s hands, but unfortunately Glenwood’s shooters didn’t miss many goals. Even so, the girls still had their arms up ready for any rebounds. Charley and Emilie came on in the second quarter and worked hard to help move the ball down the court.
Player of the week went to Charley who played C, GD and GA. It can be tricky moving from attack to defence, but Charley stayed in the correct areas of the court, found space when attacking and stuck to her player when defending. Well done Charley!
The girls turn up every Saturday, full of enthusiasm and ready to give each game 100%. I think I speak for all the parents when I say we are proud of their positive attitude and are happy to see that they are having fun each week.
Under 8 Green V St Bernardette It was a cold Saturday morning, and our team got together once again to show its netball skills this time against St Bernadette. A brief training and they were ready for the game. The game started with attacks from both teams, but Antonia (GD,GK) and Sophie (GK,GD) were very strong in the defence and didn't let St Bernardette score goals. Excellent work from Cassandra (WA, WD) and Alexa (WD, WA) doing strong passes in the middle of the field. Sarah (C) and Giorgia (C) played very well their role as Centre recovering and passing the ball to the team. Of course our team won the game, but we couldn't have done it without the excellent work of our attackers Abi (GS, GA) and Mia (GA, GS) who scored all our goals. Congratulations to Mia, our player of the week
Under 10B1 V OLOR – Loss 23-3
It was Crazy Socks n Hair Day, and crazy on court as well… This week’s game was a story of
perseverance. Our girls fought a tough team, dreaded arch-rivals OLOR, a seriously competitive
team. We also battled illness & injury, but our girls hung in there until the end.
Alex – GK – hung in there for a very tough game!
Bea – (Captain) WD and WA – improved heaps during the game!
Cate – Centre & Goal Attack – played a strong game!
Ella – GK & WD – really hung on in those defensive positions!
Emily Steele – GA & GD – played both attack & defence!
Emily Tapia – WA, WD & Centre – if you can handle Centre today, you can handle it anywhere!
Jessica – GS & GA – managed a ‘cut’ and played great until a mighty fall!
Marianna – WA & Centre – always does her level best!
Olivia – GD & GS – managed these 2 different positions beautifully!
To start the game, Captain Bea went in for the toss, but OLOR won that.
Early on we had a few good intercepts, and our attack went fairly well
However, their goal shooter never missed.
In the break, Coach Simone reminded everyone to keep themselves between the player and the ball.
There were times when we wavered, but we always came back to fight on.
Our defence was working tough today.
Our attack was beautiful.
All the girls played really hard.
Emily T won the trophy – well deserved, as she played 3 different positions and did her best in each
of them!
In the end the other team won, but we hung in there, and showed what we were made of… and it
was perseverance… We’ll be back!!
Under 11D1 V Winston Hills The game didn't look favourable for our team from the beginning with few players injured, sick or away. We knew there were no substitutes for this game but we also knew we had to do our best. At the end of the first quarter our team was losing by 3 points, but after few changes from the coach our team recovered incredibly with Marisa (GD) and Erin (GK) doing an excellent job defending and Nicole (GA) and Lorraine (GS) scoring most of the goals Everything was going well during the second and third quarters, with strong passes to our attackers from Faith (C, WA) and Emma (WA, C) and great work from Olivia (WD) recovering balls for our team. Unfortunately the fourth quarter was not favourable to our team and the result of the game was 14-9 against us. Congratulations to Emma, our player of the week.
