Round 5 Match Report

Under 8 Navy V Impalas
What a great game for our Under 8 Navy team in Round 5! While we missed Matilda and Lauren due to illness and Georgia who is holidaying with her family in Fiji, we send a HUGE thank you to Mia Wickman from the Under 8 Green team for standing in to ensure we had a full team!
The girls really found their feet this week and put their training skills to use with zig-zags down the court and some quick passes. With Elise in GA and Emilie in GS, they were our star shooters on the day with 2 goals each! They did a great job moving into the circle and positioning themselves under the ring – well done girls! Charley, Mia and Isabella were quick on their toes with finding space on the court in our WA, WD and C positions. Poor Isabella and Elise both hit the deck and needed a little time out to recover from their wounds, both bouncing back to continue their game with a smile. Milana and Emma were on their players like glue throughout the game and did well in the GD and GK positions with some great intercepts and chasing the rebounds, fantastic effort girls.
The girls walked away with a 4 all draw against Impalas and our Player of the Week award went to Emilie! Well done girls on a tremendous game… we look forward to the next round!
Under 8 Green V OLOR
On a cool crisp Saturday morning 9 nifty netballers headed out to Kellyville wearing their pink for Mother’s Day and Breast Cancer research. Under the guidance of Supercoach Wickman the girls have become a well drilled unit and have been racking up big scores.
The coach once again rotated the positions in order to improve the girl’s development and their abilities right across the court is plain for all to see. The shooting combination of Georgia, Abby and Antonia scored 9 points and the defensive combination of Abigail, Sophie and Sarah repelled the opposition who found it difficult to keep the ball in their possession.
Cassie and Alexa zipped around the court with enthusiasm and skill and gained many possessions and intercepts in the process... We missed Mia this week as she was required with our other under 8’s yet we cannot wait to have her back on board this week.
Another hard session at training on Friday will undoubtedly be on the cards from coach Wickman and the professionalism and enthusiasm she displays as a coach and mentor is translating into a ripper little team playing to their full potential.

Under 9 Gold V RHAC
We knew going into our game this week we would be challenged as RHAC have graded their teams in our division. This didn’t faze our girls one bit. It is so exhilarating to report 9 Gold have had their third consecutive win for the season. Well done girls, your hard work is certainly being rewarded.
Hard to imagine, but we played the entire first quarter off the first centre! Both teams had plenty of touch to the ball but no one was able to score (we at least managed two shots at goal but unfortunately, were unsuccessful). A huge shout out to our consistent, focussed defensive team of Allison, Tiara, and Angelina – you girls have perfected your communication and working together - it’s almost like you know where the other girls are heading! Zoe was back this week after illness and she took on the role of creating movement in her position of centre. Georgia, Portia, Olivia and Melissa worked solidly as our attacking combination to keep the RHAC player marked and unable to break free to score. We were progressing quite well with the score in our favour, when during the third quarter RHAC managed to get 2 quick goals and we were suddenly in the unenviable position of being only one goal up. Another quick goal from Melissa had our lead restored, which meant the final quarter was going to be fiercely contested. The last half of the game was quite stressful as we were moving the ball beautifully around the court and getting plenty of shots at goal, the ball just wasn’t going in.
A few times this week I thought I saw the return of “the hail Mary pass” – perhaps I was mistaken? RHAC managed to sneak up on us when we threw loose passes or slipped back into our old habit of bunching around the court.
The final quarter was just nerve racking with lots of quick changeovers from one end to other.

Another OLOL goal and then another RHAC goal had the final result in our favour. This week we were shooting at an accuracy rate of 20% whilst RHAC had an accuracy rate of 33%.
Thanks to Portia who was our team Captain this week and did a stellar job of winning the toss to give us first centre pass. Well done to Melissa who scored all our goals. A huge congratulations to Tiara our player of the week. Well done Tiara, you had such a talented player to mark all game and you never gave up. Tiara demonstrated just how crucial saving goals can be to the final score!
Another great game girls, it is so rewarding to watch each of you developing as a player and having so much fun. Playing a quality opposition does help you to enhance your individual skill set and each game you play shows everyone on the sideline just how versatile you girls can be!
Our inspirational thought for this week: Success isn’t given, it’s earned. Whether it is on the track, the field, the court or in the gym – with blood, sweat and the occasional tear (author unknown).
11D1 V RHAC – WIN 16-14
It was a gorgeous day to play netball and for a win. Nicole (GA,GS) made a great start to the game shooting a goal within the first five minutes. Naomi (GK) and Marisa (GD) were involved in some very impressive intercepts which helped us gain the ball many times. They worked hard at keeping the ball out of the circle. Olivia stayed on her WA and made a really consistent effort to follow her everywhere. Alana (WA,C) worked tirelessly at keeping the ball in our circle and Emma (WD,WA) showed some really strong passing and catching skills and glued herself to her player. Faith (WA) worked really hard at helping to pass the ball in and out of the circle. Erin (GS,WD,GK) was all over the court making sure the ball stayed with OLOL. Lorraine (GS,GA) seemed to have springs on the bottoms of her feet when it came to shooting and catching rebounds. Congratulations to our player of the match Isabella (C). Her quick intercepts, strong passes and steely determination helped in our victory. It was a very exciting and nail-biting game and RHAC18 put up a good fight.
Under 12C V RAMS – Loss 8-16
Jade shot well. Angie was working well in the circle. Charlotte was always in space. Anamarie threw good passes. Chloe was breaking well. Emily got lots of intercepts. Emily got player of the match. A tough match for OLOL! From Sarah.
