Round 3 Match Report

Under 8 Navy - Player of the Match - 18 April 2015_edited.jpg

Under 8 Navy V Winston Hills

Another great game for our under 8's. Despite a couple of weeks off, the girls seemed to remember their basics and are really starting to find their feet on the court. There was great defence by Bella, Matilda and Georgia both mid court in defending the goal circle, whilst Elise, Emily, Lauren, Milana and Emma did had a great with their mid court attack and in our goal area. Player of the match this week, when to the unstoppable Matilda, who just kept going for every intercept, stayed with her player and found space for that next pass. Congrats on another great game girls, looking forward to our next!

Under 8 Green V Castle Hills Sports

What a performance from our U/8 Team this week! The girls played Caste Hills Sports and walked away with a win!

Saturdays game saw the girls bring to the court, all the skills they have been learning from their amazing coach, Jackie.

With some awesome passages of play from the entire attack end, and defence making it almost impossible for the opposition to get near their goal post - Certainly a win to be proud of!

Special mention to Antonia Baranowski who earned Player of the Match - shooting her way to our huge win!

A fantastic game by all - looking forward to some exciting netball to come!

Abbie Pickard - was missed this week, with a broken arm...... get better soon Abbie!

Under 9 Gold V OLOR

After two lovely weeks of school holidays, our team was ready to take the court last Saturday. We were missing two of our central court players Mia and Georgia; which meant no substitutions – but the girls were up to the challenge! Melissa was able to step in as team captain this week in Georgia’s absence and choose wisely for our goal third (that early morning sun can be blinding). Also, congratulations to Melissa on scoring both our goals this week!

Clearly the holiday training (or was it the stylish training shirts) have helped equip the girls with some new strategies to move the ball around the court? OLOR were a quality opposition, and definitely put our girls to the test with their strong defence and fast movement through the centre third. OLOR's passes combined with their “give it all” attitude made for a very exciting game from the sideline!

By half time both teams had 8 attempts at goal. Thankfully we were up, and were quite unlucky a few extra shots just didn’t make it through the ring. The huge differentiation of the game was our quality defence. Well done to Allison, Tiara, Angelina and Olivia who worked so well together to move each rebound or unsuccessful pass from OLOR’s end of the court. In fact, you girls did such a great job that OLOR only had one genuine shot at goal in both the third and fourth quarters! Our attacking team of Zoe, Melissa and Portia did well to shuffle and drive the ball to the circle but we just couldn’t convert those shots to goals this week … a shame, because a few of the goal attempts in the latter half of the game would have been spectacular goals! Keep practising those goals at home girls

Congratulations to Olivia (player of the week) for a terrific game as centre, she certainly helped keep the ball alive in the centre third creating lots of opportunities for our team to move the ball around.

As a parent, I was so proud of how you girls played this week. It is obvious you love playing together and your relentless drive to make this game our first win was evident to everyone. More importantly, you girls train and play as a team:

T: together

E: everyone

A: achieves

M: more

Keep up the impressive commitment 9 Gold – you rock!

U10's - 18 April 2015_edited.jpg

Under 10s V RHAC - Win 11 - 4

It was tough coming back after two weeks off, but the girls worked hard on their defence at training on Friday ~ sticking with their player and not following the ball. Simone (our coach) discussed the fact that attack and defence players are equally important and everyone needs to play an attack and defence game each week.

Bea and Jessica sat the first half out, cheering the girls on and keeping an eye on the score.

Emily S (GA) and Emily T (GS) started the game as our shooters and worked really well with Mariana (WA) and Caitlin (C), passing the ball in and out of the circle, trying to find that perfect shooting position.

We are continuing to work on moving the ball down the court, remembering there’s only three seconds to break into a space for our players. We also seem to really like hugging the sideline!

Ella (WD) fought for some intercepts and when she couldn’t hold the intercept, she batted the ball out and stopped the other team’s momentum. Olivia (GD) and Alex (GK) worked steadily in the circle, making their players work hard to find a space and snatching some great rebounds!

When Bea (WD) came on in the second half, she made her player fight for space. Bea is determined not to step when she gets the ball, and you can see the concentration on her face.

Unfortunately Caitlin fell and injured her hand ~ but with no game next week she will be back and raring to go in round 4!

Jessica filled in for Caitlin at (C) and then moved into GS. She uses her height well, finding space near the ring for the girls to get the ball to her.

Player of the Match went to Emily S ~ nice one Steele

It has to be said, the parents of this team are often the loudest cheer squad, but we are just so proud of the girls! The games are exciting to watch and we look forward to the ‘Razzle Dazzle’ they bring each week!!

11D1 V St Pauls - Win 16-3

After two weeks break the girls were excited to be back on the court. They knew they were facing a tough opponent but were up for a challenge.

St Paul’s started the match with some quick passes but Nicole (GA) was in the right position and intercepted the ball and with Alana’s help (C) got it down to the circle where Lorraine used the opportunity and scored the first goal of the match. The second one followed not long after and since that point our girls dominated the game.

There was a lot of action in the middle of the court where Marisa worked hard in defence (GD) with support from Naomi (GK) making it almost impossible for the opponents to get in the positions and score. Faith (WA) and Nicole (GA) worked well together in attack and with great support from Alana(C) and Emma (WD) were feeding the ball to Lorraine. By the end of 1st Quarter Ollies were leading 5:1.

Cathy (our coach for the day) was following the game closely and made the girls swap positions a few times throughout the game to keep the ball moving fast down the court. St Pauls was consistently attacking in the 3rd and 4th Quarter but couldn’t get through our strong defence Marisa (GD) and Olivia (GK) who was sticking closely to her player, always ready to get the ball. Naomi was working hard in centre, chasing every ball, passing it down the line to Erin (WA) who showed some great intercepting skills throughout the game and Emma (WD) always quick enough to find and gap, feeding the ball down to circle to Lorraine (GS) and Nicole (GA).Our shooters were right on target and it was 14:2 by the end of 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Quarter Marisa was still on fire defending and supporting her team, as always with some powerful passes resulting in St Pauls only scoring one more goal. Alana was back on the court as WA, quick on her feet, showing great ball handling skills and supported Lorraine (GA) and Nicole(GS)) who used the opportunity to shoot and rebounds topping up the score to 16 :3 just before the end of the match. Great teamwork and another

well-deserved win for Ollies!

Special mention and congratulations to our “Player of the match” Marisa who made it almost impossible for our opponents to get a hold of the ball.
