Round 2 Match Reports

Under 8 Green V Oakhill Drive

On Saturday 28th March, our Under 8 Green team played against Oakhill Drive. Our girls are certainly bringing to the court all the great things they are learning at training. The girls are understanding how to “make space” and defend well to put pressure on the other team, whilst showing great sportsmanship and teamwork. They are all so focused and determined and love using their new skills on game day. A delightful group of girls to watch! The smiles on their faces says it all. A special mention and congratulations to Alexa Lucas, our player of the week, who managed so many intercepts that we all lost count.

Under 9 Gold V RAMS

Our game this week was the proverbial tale of two teams – two OLOL teams that is! The first quarter saw our team lack to the ability to drive the ball consistently into the goal third. If we did have a shot at goal, we weren’t there for the rebound and way too many times throughout the entire court, our passes ended up in the hands of the opposition. Unfortunately, by half time we were down and our team had spent way too much time chasing the ball and not sticking with our player.

Then came the precious 60 seconds at half time. Enter Coach Lena. Girls, where’s our drill from yesterday she asked? Our beautiful long passes – are they forgotten? Creating the space to open up play? Is it possible the favourite “ice-cream” drill could help us move around the court better than we are doing at the moment?

What a miraculous turn-a-round in the last two quarters girls – Rams didn’t score again for the remainder of the game! Our wing combinations of Mia, Georgia and Olivia created wonderful opportunities for Allison (player of the week) to drive the ball up to our shooters Melissa, Zoe or Portia. There were fast, accurate passes around the court that had this slick opposition fumbling to keep up with you. As always, it is just as important to stop goals as it is to score them. Tiara and Angelina worked solidly to defend their players and reaching for those precious rebounds to get things moving back to our advantage. Well done to Melissa on scoring two goals and Portia one.

Our inspirational last two quarters had the opposition rattled. They had 22 shots at goal for their 6 (27% accuracy). Our team had only 7 shots at goal and managed to score 3 (43% accuracy).

Well done girls, your last half of the game was certainly ANZ Championship material – now, more of this next game please!

10B1 V St Paul’s – Win – 9-4

On Saturday 28th March, our Under 10’s team played against St Paul’s. For the committed supporters on the sideline, the girls were a delight to watch with great teamwork, sportsmanship and determination.

All the girls took what they learnt at training onto the court on Saturday, driving around their players to make passing up the court seamless! The girls have also really worked on jumping up for the ball, creating many intercepts and more pressure on the opposing team.

The continued improvement and focus from these girls is certainly showing in their game. A special congratulations to our player of the day, Caitlin who showed a tireless effort in Goal Attack and Centre.

11D1 V St Michael’s – Win – 15-7

11D1 came to the second game of 2015 very excited and ready to win. The first quarter was very close with both teams quick and precise with the ball down the court. Olivia and Marisa defended in the circle very well catching all the rebounds and getting the ball to the other end of the court where Erin and Nicole ensured we kept getting points.

The second and third quarter had St Michael scoring limited goals because of the intercepted passes by Isabella throughout the match and once again our defence in the circle was excellent . Naomi and Emma making sure the ball made its way back to Lorraine and Nicole to make those fantastic goals that kept the team ahead.

The fourth quarter the girls held it together. Faith and Alana’s foot work and ball skills ensured our lead. The final score was 15-7 reflecting on our hard work. Alana received the player of the match for her flexibility of being able to play different positions well throughout the match. Let’s keep up this high standards girls and good luck next game
